THE REVIVAL OF BEER STREET is an initiative of the City of Rio, through Municipal Secretariat for Urban and Economic Development – ​​SMDUE, in partnership with Rio de Janeiro Company of Partnerships and Investments – CCPAR, which is creating a beer hub on the iconic Rua da Carioca.

The project connected idle properties on Rua da Carioca with craft brewery projects, financially supports the reform of historic properties and encourages commerce in the heart of the city. In addition, the project also foresees the urban transformation of the address with widened sidewalks and new living spaces.

Creating Rua da Cerveja in downtown Rio, especially on Rua da Carioca, strengthens commerce, requalifies properties that are part of our city's history and boosts the economy, and creates another tourist attraction in the Marvelous City. The movement outside of peak hours, as well as the urban recovery of the street, with new lighting, wider sidewalks and new social spaces, are essential for the region, including improving safety in the city center.

The project adds to the initiatives of Revive Center, which is a plan for the urban, cultural, social and economic recovery of the central region of Rio, encouraging the attraction of new residents. And at the Reviver Cultural Center which is also linked to other initiatives and is bringing artistic and cultural establishments to the historic center of Rio, in a perimeter very close to Rua da Carioca. These projects are rescuing our urban center and giving new life to the region, preserving our history and attracting new businesses and residents.

REVITALIZATION OF RUA DA CARIOCA

Idle properties facing Rua da Carioca and used exclusively for commercial purposes are being occupied by craft breweries.
With the projects, the properties are undergoing renovations and will gain new life.

The urban project for Rua da Carioca will transform this historic street for Rio. It will be reduced from 3 to 2 lanes, one for the BRS (exclusive bus lanes) and another for cars, putting an end to the illegal parking that previously occupied part of the street. With this, there will be an increase of 1,5 m of sidewalk on each side and the installation of new lighting e urban furniture, reform of sidewalks and creation of flowerbeds draining.

 


NEW BEER CENTER

A new tourist spot is created in the heart of the city, with financial support from the City of Rio for at least 30 months so that the projects can get off the ground and remain at the address. The amount was used to renovate the properties and will help cover the monthly costs of the establishments.

Counterpart of the projects that are in the program:

Produce and sell craft beers on site;

Have at least 2 years of experience in the field;

Have extended opening hours and weekends; and

Carry out the proposed activities for a minimum period of 30 months.
