Porto Maravalley (POMAR) is an initiative of the City of Rio, through Municipal Secretariat for Urban and Economic Development (SMDUE), Invest.Rio and the Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar) with the aim of transforming Rio into the innovation capital of Latin America. As technology and innovation hub, POMAR will bring together the best education with startups, innovative companies, investors and research centers in the heart of Porto Maravilha.

In the world we live in, innovation is no longer an option. It is essential to ensure that we do not fall behind in the face of all the current technological changes. And there is no better place to think about innovation than Rio, which has a vocation for pioneering in the country.

Creating an ecosystem that enables new ideas to develop involves knowledge production, connecting this knowledge to the “how to do it” with companies and investors, and a favorable environment for the opening and development of new businesses. This is exactly what we want to create in the port region of Rio, and the epicenter of Rio’s transformation into the capital of innovation is Porto Maravalley.

INNOVATION HUB

There will be around 10 thousand m² for integration, innovation e education. With living and connection areas; auditorium for 100 people; space for events; restaurant; cafes; around 600 workstations; 20 to 30 private and meeting rooms; 350 m² for laboratories; space for anchor companies; classrooms; rooms for teachers; and a library.

The hub will have the following pillars:

1️⃣ Acceleration and Innovation Programs for startups and entrepreneurs

2️⃣ Technology Events and Projects

3️⃣ Graduation and Research

4️⃣ Coworking space with common areas

The space will be managed by Energy Bay River (REB) – the result of a program by MIT REAP (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) that aims at local development and acceleration, with a focus on innovation and technology. This was the first time that a Brazilian city participated in the initiative.

The Education Operator will be the IMPA Tech, the mathematics faculty of the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA).

Furthermore, 20% of the students were selected based on their ENEM score.
